So what is IRO, anyway?

      IRO is many things. It is primarily a collegiate Model United Nations organization that participates in conferences around the continent. But, more generally, IRO is a group dedicated to promoting understanding and recognition of international issues through debate and discussion. Members need not be scholars of history, communication, political theory or international relations to be a part of the group. Instead, IRO members are those interested in and dedicated to international affairs.

A History of IRO

      The Michigan State University International Relations Organization (IRO) had a long and rich history. Founded sometime before 1983, IRO has grown into a pinnacle of large-delegation Model United Nations performance, continuing to win awards across the country. In fact, IRO is one of the largest Model UN groups in the nation!
      Over its nearly 30-year history, IRO has been one of Michigan State's largest and most competitive clubs. IRO even inspired the creation of Michigan State’s own conference for high school students, MSUMUN, which was formed in 2001.
      IRO prides itself on its large, inclusive and close-knit membership. Past and current members can attest that IRO has had a profound impact on them, helping them develop a keen awareness of foreign affairs while having a great time doing so! With membership going strong and decades of competition ahead, the future looks bright for IRO and its dedicated model UNers!
