Hey folks,
Well, it’s that time of year again. Snow is falling in Michigan, the lakes are frosting over, and MSU IRO has recently returned from the long journey to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to attend UPMUNC 2011. For the uninitiated, UPMUNC is hosted by students from the University of Pennsylvania, and was held at the Doubletree Hotel in the middle of downtown. MSU IRO brought a whopping 35 delegates to one of the most important conferences of the year.
As always, hanging out in Philadelphia for a weekend was, as the Irish say, ‘good craic’, and our delegation took advantage of Cocktail Night and, of course, Delegate Fest. We rounded out the weekend by watching and cheering on our Spartans together in the first ever Big Ten Championship game.
UPMUNC was a blast, with notable speakers like Jeffrey Sachs, dynamic large committees and crisis committees such as a future Mossad committee that this delegate can only describe as ‘frenetic’. Our delegation came home with two awards; one in a double delegation in a General Assembly committee and the other as a single delegate in a crisis committee. The award winners are listed below. Congratulations, guys.
Tom Nally & Varsha Koduvayur representing the Netherlands in the UNFCCC
Christopher Bourdganis as Alain Juppe, Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Xenothreat Conclave
Thanks for reading. We look forward to seeing you all in the meetings, in the halls, or at McMUN in 2012!
Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays,
Jake
